Adopt-A-Precinct Brochure

The Adopt-A-Precinct Program is an opportunity to create a community partnership between the Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office and area businesses or organizations within the County. It creates a relationship which addresses the need for qualified election workers while providing an opportunity for the business or organization to earn monies to help meet their charitable goals and objectives.

The program is designed to help recruit, train, and employ election workers that embody our commitment to the citizens of Lake County:

  • Voter Confidence
  • Excellent Service
  • Accurate & Efficient Elections
  • Responsible Financial Stewardship

In exchange for your business or organization providing committed workers, the stipend usually paid to our election workers, will be paid to the charity of your choice. Typically, the stipend amount can range between $1,000-$1,500. These funds could be used to help establish scholarships, special community based projects, or support other worthy causes in the community.

To learn more about this program or how you can participate, please contact our Community Outreach Director, Nanci Cornwell, 352-253-6109 or complete the Adopt-A-Precinct Interest Form.

We look forward to developing a relationship with your business or organization and working together to make the voting experience the best it can be for Lake County residents.

The Adopt-A-Precinct Program

  • Provides community organizations and non-profits the opportunity to be part of the elections process.
  • Raises funds for your worthy causes by paying your organization or non-profit rather than the individual election worker.
  • Each participating organization or non-profit "adopts" a specific precinct or multiple precincts for each election cycle by providing the personnel to staff the precinct(s).

Interested in adopting a precinct?

Fill out the form below. We will review your information and notify you of the next step in establishing this partnership. We are thrilled that you are interested in helping your community and fellow voters! See you at the polls!

Note: As much as we wish we could accept all applicants, filling out the form does not, in any way, guarantee your position. There are several factors that go into the selection process. You will be notified upon your acceptance into the Adopt-A-Precinct Program.

Agency Coordinator

Once an organization has been selected to become an Adopt-A-Precinct partner, they will need to sign a partnership agreement and we will need them to provide an Agency Coordinator. This individual will:

  • Provide the name of the charitable organization that will benefit from the proceeds
  • Complete a W-9 form and provide IRS certification of nonprofit exemption status.
  • Provide the names and contact information of 6-8 workers (this includes workers and back-up personnel).
  • Ensure that all workers are registered to vote in Lake County.
  • Ensure that all workers attend all training, which is mandatory and occurs prior to each election.
  • Ensure all workers begin working at 6:00 a.m. on Election Day. Since polls are open from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., the time they leave varies and can be after 8:00 p.m..

We usually only have one organization adopt each precinct, but we may have a mix of experienced worker/volunteers matched up with workers from the organization. This mix ensures that we have experienced personnel working alongside folks who might be working the polls for the very first time. Workers will need to bring food and necessities for the entire day because once they are in the polling location, they will not be able to leave until the Election Day is complete.
