A Message from Alan Hays

Lake County's Supervisor of Elections

In this month of July, we all celebrate the founding of our nation and the bravery and commitment to freedom of those founding fathers in 1776. May we never ever take for granted the courage and the fortitude that it took for those men and women of that day to stand up boldly for the cause of freedom. Let each of us honor their sacrifice by passing on to the coming generations our respect and appreciation for those sacrifices.

In this 24-hour news cycle world that we are living in, being an astute voter has never been more important. Election offices throughout our great state, including our own are on the forefront of a battle against election administration misinformation.

I and my team take great pride in the work that we do and, in our ability, to conduct accurate and efficient elections with transparency. For more than five years we have offered community members the opportunity to schedule a tour on Tuesdays and Thursdays, schedule permitting, of our facility. We recently held an open house event which was tremendously received by attendees.

Our desire to reach and arm more voters with facts instead of fiction was fueled by our successful open house.  The idea of a virtual tour was born and is now available on our website at Virtual Tour

There are four virtual tour segments, and I would like to encourage you to watch each one. I also want you to invite your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, that young person next door to watch with you. Being a voter isn’t enough. We must also raise up the next generation of voters.

I’d like to thank the team of SouthLake.TV  who made this virtual option possible for our community. Our right to vote is one of our most important civil rights. Being an informed voter honors all those who gave us that right and the privileges we enjoy today.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as your Supervisor of Elections.

Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office to Host Election Worker Information Sessions

Tavares, FL- Lake County Supervisor of Elections, Alan Hays, announces upcoming election worker information sessions.

If you have ever wondered what it takes to work the polls on Election Day, here is your opportunity to find out. The Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office will be hosting information sessions over the next several months. These sessions outline eligibility criteria, pay rates, as well as provide an overview of what is expected of workers during an election season. These information sessions are the first step in the process of becoming an election worker.
“We held several information sessions last fall and at the beginning of this year. I am proud to say we have great success and our sessions have been well attended,” Hays commented. The next information session will be held on February 21st at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center at 2:00 pm. The Clermont Arts and Recreation Center is located at 3700 S. Hwy 27 in Clermont. This is the last session to be held before the Presidential Preference Primary on March 17th. Sessions last about an hour, and election worker applications may be completed at the end of the presentation. Additional sessions will be held on April 17th at the Lake County Supervisor of Elections Office at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The Elections Office is located at 1898 E. Burleigh Blvd in Tavares. For more information about upcoming sessions, visit their website www.LakeVotes.com or sign up for a session via email at ElectionWorker@LakeVotes.com.
“With the upcoming 2020 elections, we will be needing a full roster of folks to ensure adequate coverage at the polling sites,” Hays further commented. “We are continuously recruiting qualified individuals to serve,” shared Hays. Becoming an election worker is an opportunity to show your civic pride, make a little extra cash, and ensure voters have a positive election experience. If you are interested in becoming an election worker, but are unable to attend one of the sessions, you may complete an interest form online at their website as well. Just click the election workers button on the home page and select become an election worker and follow the prompts.
